Ann Arbor
Ann Arbor's downtown is a great area for walking. It's full of restaurants, interesting stores, and odd curiosities like little tiny fairy doors.
Ann Arbor Art Fair
The Ann Arbor Art Fair is the thing to do on Saturday.
There are actually four different art fairs going on at once: the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair,
the State Street Art Fair,
the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair,
and
Ann Arbor's South University Art Fair.
The whole town will be taken over by white booths filled with giant statues of rabbits,
photographs that look like paintings, shiny things on sticks, and much, much more.
The happy madness continues until 6pm on Saturday.
Food & Drink
Zingerman's Deli is an Ann Arbor must-see. They sell meat, cheese, olive oil, honey, and many other goodies from all over the US and all over the world. Next door to the deli is a coffee bar and chocolate shop where you can get pastries, gelato, truffles, coffee, and tea. A bit pricey, but then again, they will let you sample everything they sell.
Pizza House sells pizza, just like the name says. They also have salads and sandwiches. Open until 4am, this is a good place to go for the pre-late-night munchies.
Grizzly Peak Brewing Company serves very good food and beer made in an on-site brewery. The building is a century old and has a nice casual pub ambience.
The Ann Arbor Brewing Company is another place to get good food and good microbrewed beer to go with it. Or food to go with the beer, depending on your tastes.
Seva is a vegetarian restaurant that even hard-core carnivores have been known to like. They have pasta dishes, sandwiches, salads, and dishes from other cuisines including Thai and Mexican. They also have a juice bar (try a ginger shot!) and make fabulous sweet potato fries. Be careful, though - the yummy extras can make things expensive.
If you're looking for something else, try searching by cuisine on the ArborWeb Restaurant Guide or just ask a friendly local swing dancer.
Ice Cream
Ann Arbor can be a bit warm in July, but thankfully there's a lot of good ice cream available to cool you down.
If you're willing to take a short walk, the Washtenaw Dairy serves incredibly generous scoops at reasonable prices.
Zingerman's Next Door, right next to Zingerman's Deli, has some delicious flavors of gelato - and they will happily give you free samples of as many as you would like!
Stucchi's is a locally owned ice cream chain with one branch here and another branch over here.
Downtown Ann Arbor also hosts a Ben and Jerry's, for when you need your favorite familiar flavor.
The Chocolate Cafe has ice cream and truffles too.
Kilwin's also has truffles. This is the place to come for chocolately chocolatey ice cream. They also make a fantastic chocolate malt.
